You might come to me with your wedding song, a playlist you have listened to a thousand times, a relationship that changed you, the loss of a loved one, a new job, a favorite poem or photograph, or an idea for the life you want to build.
These ideas become color, texture, and form.

I’ll ask questions. Some will be practical, like the size of the painting, where it will live, and whether there are colors you love or absolutely cannot stand.

Music has always looked like color to me.
I can close my eyes and see color moving through a song. A song might begin turquoise, melt into orange and pink, and then suddenly a dark navy bursts in. Another might feel almost entirely green until one stanza changes to bright magenta.

The TEN Series is my interpretation of love, loss, joy, and grief in relationships. Each piece is an abstract portrait of the ten most significant relationships in my life.
This is my most vulnerable body of work to date. In some ways, it is my autobiography.
Painting Found Me When I Got Sick.
At the end of 2016, I got really sick.
A few weeks earlier, at Christmas, my two-year-old niece had handed me a paintbrush. When I took it from her, I felt a jolt of energy travel up my arm. I thought of this often while sick, and started exploring the craft.
I watched abstract painting techniques on YouTube and dove into it all: colored pencils, acrylic paints, fluid paints, watercolor, crayons. I taught myself by often making very ugly things.
Painting gave me a new way to metabolize life.
