Commissions

Commission Something Personal

Kendra Malloy talking with a client about a commission in her studio

Some things matter too much to stay only in your memory.

A commission can begin with a song, a relationship, someone you loved, a place you still think about, or a season of your life that changed you. Let’s talk about that and build a piece around the memories, dreams, or hopes.

We’ll talk about the practical details, including size, where the piece will live, and colors you love (and hate). My goal is to discover how you want to feel everytime you look at the piece. What did this person evoke? What does song remind you of? What lyrics stick out the most? Where are you headed? And so forth.

I take what you give me and interpret it through color, texture, movement, and form. The painting will be unmistakably in my style, but the reason it exists will be unmistakably because of you.

Tell me what matters.

The Process

How an Intuitive Painting Begins

01

Tell Me What Matters.

You might come to me with your wedding song, a playlist you have listened to a thousand times, a relationship that changed you, or an idea for the life you want to create next.

These ideas become color, texture, and form.

02

We Talk About The Emotions Evoked.

I’ll ask questions. Some will be practical, like the size of the painting, where it will live, and whether there are colors you love or absolutely cannot stand.

And then we get into stuff that matters most: What does this person bring out in you? What does this song remind you of? Why do you love that particular movie? What do you hope you feel when you walk past this painting five years from now?

This will help me as I translate feelings, art, or relationships into art.

03

Then I Create.

Once I begin to create, intuition takes over.

I work primarily in acrylic, watercolor, alcohol ink, acrylic ink, and cold wax, often layering heavy texture with fluid techniques. I favor dimension and paintings that shift slightly depending on where you stand or how the light hits them.

Eventually, your feelings, memories, and stories become something you can See, Feel, and Hold Close.

Ready to turn what matters into a painting?

Tell me about the song, memory, or feeling you want to hold onto, and we will begin.
